The stunning Blackwood timber radiates a subtle beauty that makes it irresistible. It boasts a variety of colours ranging from light golden-brown to deep brown (sometimes with a reddish tint) and occasionally shows black streaks. Additional character is in the grain, which can be straight or wavy with a natural lustre.


Blackwood furniture features a distinctive colour palette, ranging from reds and browns, orange and salmon pink, through to deep chocolate. While not the densest timber at 640 kg per cubic meter, the natural colouring places this timber in a class of its own.


The Blackwood Tree (Acacia melanoxylon) can be found throughout Tasmania’s native forests, especially in swamp areas. It is highly regarded by cabinet markers has been used for furniture making in Tasmania since the 19th Century.
