It is among the strongest hardwoods with a density of 900kg per cubic meter. For these reasons it makes beautiful and strong timber furniture. The Red Gum tree (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) is resistant to termites and was used by European settlers for making railway sleepers, wharves and mine shafts.
